1. Prefab homes are tried and true
Prefabricated houses are not a revolutionary concept; they’ve been around since the early 1900s. Some new designs have been created, but the basic idea remains the same.
2. Flat-pack and modular are not the same thing
Flat-pack homes arrive packed up like a store-bought home you assemble yourself – kind of like IKEA furniture. Modular homes are manufactured in factories and shipped wholly with everything in place, including windows, interior, etc. With modular homes, there are fewer weather delays, there is no environmental damage to the materials, and final assembly (and inspections) take drastically less time.
3. Prefab vs. custom
Good news – you don’t have to choose between the two! Even though prefab homes are created in a factory, you still make lots of choices. It depends on the company. If you have a question on something specific, please feel free to reach out to us!
4. You can choose, but don’t have to
In a completely custom-built house, the amount of choices you have to make can be overwhelming. With preset floorplans, you get something you can trust (since others clearly trust it as well), and you can still customize it to be completely, uniquely yours.
5. Time is of the essence
If you’re looking to move into your new house sooner rather than later, prefab takes only half the time of a traditional build. Modular homes are quickest because most of the work is done at the factory.
6. It’s less expensive
A prefab home will usually cost less than a traditionally-built house, but check into the numbers before you commit. More often than not, you’ll find that the greater benefits of modular homes also come more affordably.
7. Save the environment
Factory-built houses cause less disruption to the actual plot and surrounding land, and unused materials can be reused.
8. You know what you’re getting
Building a home from scratch can cost a lot more by the end than originally intended. Decisions for prefab homes are made before the factory builds them, so there are no extra costs added along the way.
9. Right on time
The schedule works like clockwork, like any other factory-made product.
10. Additions are easy
Prefab homes are often easy to modify or add onto later. You can even choose a flexible style plan for the original structure to make things easier for the future.
