The Insulation Factor

You might not think about attic and wall insulation much, but if your home is improperly insulated, you will definitely feel it this coming winter. Proper insulation can help with air sealing and ventilation, as well as improve your home's energy efficiency, thereby reducing your utility bills. Homes constructed by Rochester are well-insulated and  energy efficient and exceed building code requirements.

Firstly, it is important to know the meaning of R-value. The R stands for resistance. The greater the R-value, the more effective the insulation, including thickness and density. Wall insulation in Rochester Homes achieves a R-value of 21, which exceeds nearly all building code requirements. In addition, the insulation is composed of recycled material. R-38 insulation is installed in our homes’ attics while they are in the production facility. The fibers are pretreated with fire retardant and are made of recycled material. As an option, R-50 insulation can be installed in the attic area.  

Rochester Homes also employs other techniques that can help save energy and money; expandable foam can be applied around bored opening in walls, such as wall outlets and switches as well as in floor and ceiling penetrations. Additionally, around plumbing, a fire caulking is used.
